For our readers interested in the day to day running of the RNLI and its boats please see our links section which contains links to the various station sites.
Thank you for visiting us and please remember that this 24 hrs a day service is run purely by the donations of your good selves.
Despite being so far from the sea, Birmingham has a long history of support for the RNLI. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, the people of Birmingham and the West Midlands have directly funded 50 lifeboats. The most recent is the Trent class lifeboat Forward Birmingham, stationed at Exmouth, the money for which was raised from a city wide appeal in 1995 and 1996. When you take into account the fact that each all weather lifeboat now costs almost £2 million the City has raised an incredible amount of money. The average annual funds raised are around £200,000 for the West Midlands of which around £70,000 is from Birmingham.
