Erdington Branch RNLI

For our readers interested in the day to day running of the RNLI and its boats please see our links section which contains links to the various station sites.

Thank you for visiting us and please remember that this 24 hrs a day service is run purely by the donations of your good selves.

Despite being so far from the sea, Birmingham has a long history of support for the RNLI. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, the people of Birmingham and the West Midlands have directly funded over 50 lifeboats. The most recent is the Trent class lifeboat Forward Birmingham, formerly stationed at Exmouth now on the relief fleet, the money for which was raised from a city wide appeal in 1995 and 1996. When you take into account the fact that each all weather lifeboat now costs almost £2 million the City has raised an incredible amount of money. The average annual funds raised are around £200,000 for the West Midlands of which around £70,000 is from Birmingham.

Following the appeal to raise funds for the new Tamar lifeboat for Angle in S.wales the new boat 16-11 Mark Mason was delivered on 17 March 2009 and will be officially named later in the year.

Chris and Jacky Clifford recently became grandparents again. This time to Charlie. All 3 grandchildren became stormforce members within hours of entering the world. For the full story click this link.
